Youth Activities
Children and youth of all ages are welcomed and valued
members of our community. The
following options and programs are particularly designed for them:
For
infants and toddlers during
Sunday 10
a.m. worship:
We have a comfortable nursery staffed by responsible teenagers from
our congregation where you may leave your child for some or all of the
service. Alternatively, if you
prefer to bring your child to the service, you may wish, at times, to
take advantage of our "crying room," a sound proof room in the church
which allows parents to see and hear the service when their children
are being vocal!
Church School: Children from Pre-School through Grade
8 are encouraged to enroll in our Church
School program, which meets
at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Children join their parents prior to the Eucharist,
and participate in the remainder of the service. Our curricula of Christian Formation focus on
the biblical teachings of the church, and on the sacramental and liturgical
traditions of our denomination.
Confirmation
Class: Youth in Grades 9 and 10 who wish to be confirmed in the
Episcopal Church enroll in a two-year cycle of Confirmation Class.
At St. Andrew's, this class provides not only education and Christian
formation for our young people, but opportunities for fellowship, outreach
and service as well. Confirmation
occurs at St. Andrew's every other year; in the alternate years it takes
place at Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield. Contact the Rector to enroll in the Confirmation
Class.
Acolytes: Children and youth from Grade 4 and up may
choose to be trained to serve as acolytes, participating and assisting
in worship services on a scheduled, rotating basis.
Youth choir: This group, for children in Grade 1 and higher,
practices every Monday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. during the school year. The
Youth Choir sings during the Sunday 10 a.m. service approximately once
a month.
For more information about any of the above, contact Sue Lussier, Director
of Christian Formation, at 567-5901.
