Pentecost: feel the spirit!

MudHouse sabbath chosen as fall parish read

All are invited to take part in an 'all-parish read' as a part of the fall adult formation program.  Mudhouse Sabbath by Lauren Winner tells how Winner found after converting from Orthodox Judaism to Christianity that "her life was indelibly marked by the rich traditions and spiritual practices of Judaism.  She set out to discover how she could incorporate some of these practices into her new faith.  Winner presents eleven spiritual practices that can transform the way Christians view the world and God." (Radiant Magazine)

Copies of Mudhouse Sabbath may be ordered by mailing or dropping a check for $8.50 to the Parish Office (checks should be made out to St. Andrew's Church) by July 15.  The book will be the subject of a fall adult formation program, and we are also anticipating that Lauren Winner will visit the parish in the fall.

New Schedule for youth and Adult Formation in September

Beginning with the new program year in the fall, a number of changes in the Christian Formation schedule will make Sunday mornings the focal time for both youth and adult formation.

  • Children Pre-K through Grade 3: The 'Faith Flight' program will meet at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings and will return to the service upstairs in time to join their parents for communion.
  • Youth in Grades 4 through 10: The older elementary students and our middle and high schools students will meet at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings and will then go upstairs for the 10 a.m. liturgy, either to worship with their parents, or to serve by participating as acolytes, ushers, or readers.
  • Adults: One or more adult study opportunities will be offered on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m.

Parents of students previously enrolled will receive more information about these changes during the summer. Anyone with questions may contact Sue Lussier, our Director of Christian Formation, at Formation@St-Andrews-Longmeadow.org. Church School registration will take place on Sunday, September 12. Watch the Anchor and this website for details on the Fall's opportunities for adults.

Transition notes - The Profile Process Proceeds:
The Profile Committee is almost done gathering information for the Parish Profile.  Don't forget to check the Transition Page for up-to-date information on our transition and discernment process as we seek our next rector.

Bishop Scruton's Visit
The Rt. Rev. Gordon Scruton made his biannual visit to the parish on Sunday, January 24.  He began with the children of Faith Flight, enjoyed talking with parishioners at coffee hour following the 10 a.m. Eucharist, and then visited the Church Without Walls, our 'outdoor congregation' in Court Square.  Click here for photos from the morning with our bishop.
